HISTORY

In 1965, local city council members and county commissioners established a community action agency under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to fight poverty in Ohio's Seneca, Ottawa, and Sandusky counties. Wood County was added shortly afterwards, and the organization became known as WSOS Community Action Agency (WSOS), an acronym standing for the first letter of each county's name.

WSOS' first program was Head Start for the children of migrant farmworkers. Over the years, WSOS' services and programs grew to meet the needs of the community. It now offers family, seniors, and child development services, as well as housing and economic development programs. From 1995 to 2000, the number of people WSOS served increased 66 percent, from 11,624 to 17,620. WSOS also offers technical assistance and training on developing water and wastewater facilities.
