  • Ron Phillips, President of Coastal Enterprises, Inc., was interviewed by the Maine Public Broadcasting Network for a segment titled "Conversations With Maine." The segments feature conversations with people who are noteworthy for their "intellect and keen insite into Maine's economic, social, cultural and environmental landscapes.   • Two magazines, South Mississippi Living and Cottage Living, profiled a Katrina Cottage built by Mercy Housing and Human Development (MHHD). The articles describe the work MHHD has done to help the Swanier Family recover from Hurricane Katrina.

  • South County was commended in the San Jose Mercury News in the article “Housing, Transit, Retail – Gilroy brings it all together” for its mixed income developments. South County has been able to successfully mix market-rate housing and low-income housing all within walking distance of mass transit, stores and restaurants.   • Umpqua CDC’s work was featured in an Oregon paper: “The News Review,” in connection with the Rural LISC Advisory Committee meeting in Southern Oregon. The article describes the various Umpqua CDC development sites that the committee visited and how impressed the group of senior bank officials, rural development specialists and national philanthropy directors are with the quality of Umpqua CDC’s work.   • Congratulations to Linda Harvey for receiving the 2006 Business Excellence Award! Laconia Area Community Land Trust was highlighted in the “Laconia Daily Sun” newspaper in October for Linda Harvey’s excellent work which led her to win this award from amongst 70 nominations.   • Stop Abusive Family Environments (SAFE) was featured in a local newspaper in McDowell County, WV in connection with the support that Fannie Mae provides to SHED Housing. A picture of Executive Director Sharon Walden with Mayor Martha Moore, SHED Representative Cathy Rose and Fannie Mae West Virginia Central Appalachia Partnership Office Director Lisa Zukoff was also printed in the paper.


  • Dineh Cooperatives, Inc. CEO Jon Colvin was highlighted in an Indian Country Business Magazine “REZBIZ” in September in an article discussing livestock grazing rights in Chinle and Navajo. Dineh Cooperatives, Inc. is highlighted in the article for its ability to obtain grazing rights about 25 years ago and for building the first shopping plaza on the Navajo nation.   • Housing Development Corporation of Lancaster was featured in a Pennsylvania paper, Lancaster New Era, as the centerpiece in 2 articles in its “On the Money” business section of August 21, 2006.


  • On June 28, 2006, a Wisconsin Paper, Waushara Argus, highlighted the “Making Rural America Work” award presented to U.S. Senator Herb Kohl by CAP Services, Inc. and Impact Seven. The article described the work of Wisconsin CDCs CAP Services and Impact Seven, as well as Stand Up for Rural America and Rural LISC.


  • Chicanos Por La Causa Vice President Manny Gauna, was highlighted in an Arizona newspaper, The Arizona Republic in the “Business Buzz” section of November 14, 2005 for his view on the affordable housing squeeze. In the article Manny discusses all the investment is going to real estate deals in the Valley causing the developers seeking to build affordable housing to be squeezed.


  • Congratulations to Linda Harvey, Laconia Area Community Land Trust’s Executive Director! She was featured in a New Hampshire Magazine as one of 18 remarkable women in the state of New Hampshire. The magazine mentions how under Linda Harvey’s leadership the Trust has done more than provide low-cost housing; it has improved the cityscape by restoring derelict buildings and added to the city's tax base.   • Rosemary Heard, Concord Area Trust for Community Housing’s new Executive Director, was noted in a Concord Monitor article as the organization moves towards breaking ground on its largest project to date, Friedman Court* with 54 affordable apartments. Rents will range from $620 to $996 per month and will be offered to individuals earning $27,000 or less, or to families of four earning less than $39,000 annually.


  • Dineh Cooperatives Inc. was highlighted in the Winter 2006 issue of “Community Food Security News” for building the Navajo Nation’s first shopping center in Chinle, Arizona and getting it anchored by the grocery retailer, Bashas’ Supermarket, in 1981. This location proved to produce the highest sales for Bashas’ Supermarkets, with 25 percent of profits being returned to the tribe, and led to similar arrangements in other communities such as Window Rock and Tuba City, Arizona, and Crownpoint, New Mexico. These “Dineh” stores have proven to be successful in part because they carry a variety of products catering to locals consumer needs.

  • An editorial in the Madison Capital Times profiled Karl Pnazek of Cap Services, Inc. and his relationship with Rep. Dave Obey. The article is available at the paper's website.

  • One of Rural LISC’s recent Pioneer in Excellence awardees, Lorna Bourg, executive director of Southern Mutual Help Association, is featured in the June 2005 issue of Acadiana LifeSyle for her work as a social philanthropist. Bourg was quoted as saying, “Southern Mutual’s mission is not to serve poverty, but to end it.” Among her many awards are; the Oliver-Sigur Humanitarian Award, the James A. Johnson Fellowship from the Fannie Mae Foundation, a fellowship to the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the “genius award,” the John D. and Catherine T. McArthur Fellowship.

  • During the 14th annual Seminar in Monterey California Rural LISC and all the guests at the Seminar went on two different tours. These tours were covered in three different newspapers. The Gilroy Dispatch, the Santa Cruz Sentinel, and The Salinas Californian.
