- A Hearty Congratulations to Carolyn Ford, Executive Director of North Florida Educational Development Corporation, who has been awarded the Alston/Bannerman Fellowship. The Fellowship honors community activists of color and also gives them the chance to take sabbaticals. Take a look at the press release for more information.
- Congratulations to Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership (SWMHP), which has been named "Developer of the Year" by the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency. The award will be given to us at the Partners for Affordable Housing banquet on February 29th.
- Coachella
Valley Housing Coalition (CVHC) awarded $23,000 in
John F. Mealey scholarships>
to 27 students on June 29, 2006 in La Quinta, CA. These
scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors and
college enrolled students that reside in one of CVHC’s
3000 homes or apartments and were in good academic
standing. Businesses and individuals may donate to
CVHC’s JFM Scholarship fund to assist future student’s
college costs by sending a check to CVHC at 45-701
Monroe Street, Suite G in Indio, CA 92201. Please
specify the JFM Scholarship Fund.
- Congratulations to
Laconia Area
Community Land Trust for two recent awards, both
given for Millview*, a redevelopment of an abandoned
Vernitron factory site.
The factory was replaced with five colonial-style
buildings containing 18 new apartments for low and
moderate income families. The Golden Hammer Award,
given by the Laconia-Weirs Beach Chamber of Commerce
recognizes Millview’s use of design, color, surface,
material and landscaping; the second is an Excellence in Urban Residential Redevelopment Award given by
the Laconia Planning Board.

Kudos to Brenda Rice and the other leaders of Community
Housing Inc. (CHI) in Winchester, Kentucky, CHI received the Innovative Nonprofit Award presented by Sam Barnes,
President of Fifth Third Bank and Danielle Clore, Director of the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative. The award
recognizes Rural LISC supported collaboration with the City of Mount Sterling to acquire properties and reclaim
neighborhoods. To date five abandoned properties have been acquired, four deteriorating houses have been demolished,
and seven new homes have been built. For more information and pictures
