SUCCESS
STORY
Angela
Deliteris of Montrose began making cheesecakes 20 years
ago for holidays and special occasions. About three
years ago, she decided to try selling her creations to
private and commercial customers. Angela had experience
making cheesecakes, but she didn't have any running a
business.
In
1999, she enrolled in The Trehab Center's
micro-enterprise program, Assets, which provides
business training and mentoring to enable local
residents to become successful entrepreneurs. Assets
taught Angela how to price her cheesecakes and market
her product. She attended an intensive 6-week program,
meeting two times per week for 3 hours each night. After
she finished, she said: "Even though you graduate
from this program, they still open up avenues for you,
continually working with you. You can always go
back."
Today,
Cheesecakes by Angela has 40 commercial accounts
and sells 45 cheesecakes weekly. Her 15 varieties of
cheesecakes, including raspberry swirl and cappuccino,
can be enjoyed in restaurants from Binghamton, New York
to Scranton, Pennsylvania. Angela still bakes her
cheesecakes at home, and personally delivers them. Her
company's slogan says it all, "You tried the
rest...now eat the best!" |
