HISTORY

The Trehab Center (Trehab) was incorporated in 1970 to provide drug and alcohol abuse services for residents of Susquehanna, Wayne, and Lackawanna counties. In 1980, its service area and responsibilities changed as Trehab was designated a Community Action Agency under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.

As such, its mission is defined as reducing poverty and promoting self-sufficiency among poor individuals and families. Accordingly, Trehab's focus expanded to include providing low-income residents with workforce development, weatherization, and other basic services.

In response to a growing need for quality affordable housing within its service area, Trehab initiated a housing development program in 1994. In 1998, Trehab established a micro-enterprise program to provide entrepreneurial training and business assistance to local residents.
