Rural
America has been largely untouched by the economic boom of
recent years. One fifth of America’s population lives in
rural areas and 14.3 percent of these residents are poor.
While the urban community development movement has gained
recognition and funding over the years, rural community
developers have been as neglected as have the communities
they represent.
The
Stand Up for Rural America Campaign is working to
change this. The campaign is a collected effort of hundreds
of national, regional and local organizations, including
Rural LISC. Stand Up’s goal is to help rural community
developers gain the public and private resources, media
attention and policy support that their work deserves.
