Since its inception in August 1965, Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. (PRVO) has worked to eradicate poverty in rural Mississippi by offering everyone the opportunity for education and training, the chance to work, and live in decency and dignity as envisioned under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.
PRVO works in over thirteen counties and employs more than four hundred people. Moreover, PRVO is operating at a funding level of 23 million dollars. PRVO uses its resources to fight poverty in a number of ways, including offering emergency food and shelter for those in need, building low income housing, and funding educational programs like Head Start.
