Breaking News!

Laconia Area Community Land Trust (LACLT) began as a grassroots organization formed by volunteers following a series of community meetings of approximately 40 individuals seeking a solution to the lack of affordable housing in the Laconia area. This diverse group, including many low income families, explored a number of options and selected the community land trust model because of its strong empowerment and leadership components for low income families and the permanent affordability of the housing.

LACLT was incorporated in October of l998; however, the first staff person was not hired until l993. In the first years, the work was conducted exclusively by volunteers who did outreach to the low-income community, clarified a mission, identified driving values and policy, and built general community support. Executive Director Linda L. Harvey was hired in July of l993 and operated as a one-person shop until 1998. Staff members have slowly been added. Currently, the staff numbers ten. LACLT is governed by a twelve- member volunteer board of directors. All directors are residents of the service area, and one-third of the seats are held by tenants of LACLT’s low income housing. This CDC’s mission is to assist low and moderate income households achieve economic self-sufficiency through the development of permanently affordable housing opportunities and associated support programs. LACLT is a certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO).
