HISTORY

Hawaiian Community Assets, Inc. (HCA) was created by an existing Hawaiian grassroots non-profit, Na Poe Kokua, dedicated to planning and implementing community development programs benefiting Native Hawaiians. HCA's mission is to increase the capacity of low-income communities and individuals to achieve economic self-sufficiency - with a particular focus on Hawaiian communities. It opened its doors in June 2000.

To achieve its mission, HCA developed a strategy that integrates financial education, financial products and services, and access to capital-all in the context of Hawaiian culture and values. HCA calls this unique holistic approach Kahua Waiwai, or "Foundation for Wealth."

Congressional Representative: Mazie Hirono (D)
