STRATEGIES & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Fayette County Community Action Agency (FCCAA) believes by coordinating economic and community development with social support systems, development and community well-being can be achieved.

Threshold Housing Development Corporation (HDC)
Founded in 1991, Threshold HDC constructs and rehabilitates housing for low-income residents of Green, Fayette, and Washington Counties. Since its inception, Threshold has built or renovated homes for more than 100 families.

Community Opportunities, Inc.
Created by FCCAA in 1985, Community Opportunities develops, manages, and operates commercial facilities. It focuses on providing space for businesses and health and human service organizations so consumers can access these services. To date, Community Opportunities has developed five properties, including the Campus of Services that is home to the Family Service Center, Food Bank and Warehouse, and FCCAA operations among others. (See Campus of Services below).

Community Opportunities also owns the Food Bank, which is the distribution center for Fayette County and serves 47 food pantries and soup kitchens.

Southwest Pennsylvania Community Development Corporation (SPCDC)
Organized in 1999, SPCDC creates jobs and business ownership opportunities for low-income and elderly residents and people with disabilities. To date, SPDC has created 15 jobs. The organization is currently developing a major business incubator that will support 8 to 10 businesses, generating a projected 100 jobs for local residents.

Community Action Medical Services Corporation (CAMSC)
Created in 1997, CAMSC offers quality affordable health care to area residents. In September 2001, it completed the expansion of its medical clinic to provide comprehensive dental care. It is the only dental practice in the area that accepts Medicaid. CAMSC serves some 2,500 patients annually.

Campus of Services
FCCAA has developed a comprehensive Campus of Services using a previously abandoned warehouse that spans two blocks in Uniontown. It houses FCCAA operations, 18 other human services agencies, and 50,000-square feet of office and commercial space. In the past three years, the Family Service Center component alone has served more than 50,000 local residents.

FCCAA just finished the newest addition to the Campus of Services, Meadow Heights. The building provides one-bedroom apartments for 60 elderly people who need support services to continue to live independently. The complex will provide residents with a wide array of services as well.

Community Training Institute
In May of 2000, FCCAA established the Community Training Institute to aid adults who have a high school diploma or GED in acquiring the specific skills necessary to obtain employment. The Certified Nursing Assistant program has 28 graduates and boasts a job placement rate of 100%. Additionally, the institute is working with the Benedum Foundation to develop new curriculum.
