Affordable Homes
Since 1972, DHDC has completed the following:
- Self-Help Housing programs: Using the USDA/RD Section 523 Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Program,
the U.S. Department of Labor Farm Worker Housing Program, and a special grant from the United Parcel Service,
DHDC has produced over 400 housing units;
- Single Family Rehabilitation RD Section 504 Program: Over 50 units have been rehabilitated using the resources
of CETA, Title VI and other training programs;
- Rural Development Section 533 (I) Housing Preservation Grant Program: Over 166 units have been
rehabilitated over a five county area using this program;
- Weatherization Emergency Assistance Program: DHDC served as the conduit for the Office of Community
Service Administration (CSA) ECIP and ECAP programs in the southeastern region of the United States.
DHDC made programmatic grants to other CDCs within the nine-state region;
- Rural Rental Program: Since 1978 DHDC has developed and managed seven rental projects, consisting of
193 units. Six of these projects were financed with Rural Development Section 515 Loans and the seventh
with LIHTC;
- Subdivision Development: DHDC has developed seven subdivisions for both single-family sites and
multi-family projects. Over 80% of the agency Self-Help houses have been built in subdivisions
developed by DHDC;
- Housing Counseling: DHDC has provided homeownership and rental housing counseling through its Self-Help
program, a Community Service Block Grant Program and through a State financed housing counseling initiative.
