HISTORY
In
1969, during the height of the La Raza civil rights and
political movement, a group of young Chicano leaders
organized Chicanos Por la Causa (CPLC), including U.S.
Representative Ed Pastor. Its mission is improving the
lives of Latino residents throughout Arizona.
CPLC
has grown over the years into one of the nation's
largest community development corporations with offices
in Phoenix, Tucson, Somerton, Safford, and Nogales. In
2001, the Hispanic Business Magazine named CPLC as the
second largest Hispanic nonprofit in the nation.
Chicanos
Por La Causa (CPLC) develops, renovates, and manages
housing across the state. CPLC
conducts a wide variety of economic development
activities, including: small business technical
assistance; micro and small business lending; incubator
space; and employment, training, counseling, and
placement programs. CPLC also works to provide a
wide range of community services to the people in its service area.
