In 2006,
Burlington Community Land Trust and Lake Champlain Housing Development Corporation
merged and formed Champlain Housing Trust. Both
organizations were each founded by the City of Burlington, Vermont in 1984 to provide affordable, safe, and decent housing to
low to moderate income
families and individuals.
The merger allowed the organizations to increase their service
area and better serve their target populations.
 The Champlain Housing Trust provides a wide range of housing throughout Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties.
They provide housing for single room occupancies, rental apartments, cooperative homes, condominiums and single family homes. Over 2,000 households live in Champlain Housing Trust homes in the region.
