SUCCESS STORY
Linda inherited a house and
despite its substandard condition, and having no other alternative, she and her son moved into it.
Unable to make repairs on her limited income, they were eventually forced to close off half the house and
live in 2 rooms. Looking for a means to repair the house Linda came to Community Housing, Inc. The house
was determined to be in such a deteriorated state that it could not be repaired. It was decided that it
would be demolished and a new house built on the site. The limited family income mandated some community
support and special financing. The City tore the house down at no cost. A loan was obtained for $40,000
at 0% interest for 40 years. A second loan of $20,107 was deferred for 10 years. CHI provided a grant of
$4,066. Linda provided a downpayment of $215 plus payment of the first year insurance policy for a total
of $500 down. Linda and her son moved into their new home in July 2003. |
